Nicki Minaj and Kim Petras Share Music Video for Electrifying “Alone” Collaboration

Nicki Minaj and Kim Petras Share Music Video for Electrifying “Alone” Collaboration

Nicki Minaj and Kim Petras have dropped a music video for their new track, “Alone.” The German pop star opens the video, which sees her assume a montage of roles, from clarinet-playing marching band leader to fitness enthusiast to off-duty nurse.

The upbeat pop single samples the 1990 club track “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay, a Dutch Europop duo project. Petras shared that, growing up in Germany, she often heard the song in clubs and looks back to it as something that gave her inspiration to make her own music.

Minaj appears about halfway through the video with her own hard-hitting rap verse, donning matching black latex with Petras.

“Her singing ‘it’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras,’ I cried, I was on the floor and then she calls me Kim Petty in it, which all my friends are like, ‘how do we not come up with that our entire lives?’,” Petras told Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe of the collaboration. “She just changed my life in so many ways with that verse and that verse rips, I love her and I’m so inspired by her always, it’s crazy to me.”

“We shot the music video together and she was like, ‘Ugh, when I heard the song, I just loved it,’ and that made me so happy.”

“Alone” will appear on Petras’ forthcoming debut album. Watch the official music video above.
