Nicholas Cage stars as himself in a new trailer for the action-comedy film, The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent. Directed by Tom Gormican, the movie follows a fictionalized version of Cage, who, rather than being wealthy and successful, can’t find any acting jobs and is on the brink of financial ruin.
After being persuaded by his agent, Cage accepts an offer to attend a superfan’s birthday party in exchange for $1 million USD. While he ends up befriending the fan on his private island in Spain, things take a turn when he’s contacted by the CIA and recruited for a clandestine mission.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter at SXSW, Cage revealed that he was initially offended when he learned about the movie. “I turned it down three or four times,” Cage said.
A letter from Gormican eventually won him over. “But when I got Tom’s letter, then I thought, ‘OK, he’s not just trying to mock so-called Nick Cage; there is a real interest in some of the earlier work,’” he continued.
Cage served as producer on the film, alongside Mike Nilon, Kristin Burr and Kevin Turen. The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent will premiere at SXSW on March 12, followed by a theatrical release on April 22.
In other entertainment news, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen spoke about returning after 17 years for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.
