NFL and Cosm To Offer Games in ‘Shared Reality’

The NFL has partnered with the immersive entertainment company Cosm to offer games in “Shared Reality.” Cosm currently operates dome-like venues in Los Angeles and Dallas that offer immersive virtual experiences.

With its new partnership with the NFL, fans will up their experience of games from simply watching them on a TV screen at home. The venue describes Shared Reality as “an experience that bridges the virtual and physical worlds by merging state-of-the-art visuals with the energy of the crowd and an elevated food and beverage service.” It’s essentially mixed reality, albeit designed for a crowd.

To create that experience, venues are outfitted with large 12K+ LED screens that measure 87 feet (27 meters) in diameter, while seating is tiered, similar to a stadium.

“There’s nothing quite like experiencing an NFL game in person — the energy, the pageantry, and the atmosphere of the stadium is irreplaceable,” Cosm CEO and former NFL player Jeb Terry said. “At Cosm, we aim to deliver an experience for the fans that can’t get to the stadium. A place for fans to cheer, connect, and celebrate football.”

For the remainder of the 2024-25 NFL season, Cosm will stream Monday, Thursday and Sunday night football games. Cosm will have its own camera and production crew on site at each NFL stadium to produce Shared Reality experiences.

Those interested in watching a Shared Reality NFL game can buy tickets on Cosm’s website.
