Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford is reportedly in doubt after a poor start to the season.
The Norwegian was heavily backed during the summer transfer window and he was expected to get his side challenging for the Premier League title this season.
The Red Devils finished in second place last year and Solskjaer signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jado Sancho in order to close the gap with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Instead, the Red Devils find themselves sixth in the standings, nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
Quite a few managers have been linked with the Old Trafford job recently and one of them is the former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman is currently out of a job after leaving the Spanish giants at the end of last season.
Zidane has won multiple trophies with Los Blancos including two La Liga titles and three Champions League titles. The 49-year-old is undoubtedly one of the most successful managers around and he would be an upgrade on Solskjaer.
However, there were rumours that the Frenchman is not keen on joining the Premier League side anytime soon.
Now Daily Record are reporting that Zidane is warming up to the idea of managing Manchester United. That said, there is still an obstacle for the Red Devils. Apparently, the Frenchman’s wife is not too keen on living in Manchester and she wants her husband to take an extended break from football.
It remains to be seen whether the Premier League giants can convince Zidane and his family to accept the role in the coming weeks.
It is evident that the club needs a change and a new manager like Zidane could lift the spirits around Old Trafford. The Frenchman is a proven winner and the players are likely to improve under his management.
Furthermore, the likes of Varane and Ronaldo have worked with him at Santiago Bernabeu and Zidane could get the best out of them.
Apart from the lack of direction under Solskjaer, one of the main problems for Manchester United is the fact that their manager has failed to get the best out of his new signings. The Norwegian has spent more money than Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool since taking over but he is yet to produce the goods.

The Red Devils cannot afford to fall further behind their rivals if they want to stay in the title race this season. A change is needed and the club hierarchy will need to act swiftly if they want to save the season.
Bringing in Zidane as soon as possible could be step in the right direction and it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks.
