New York Mayor Eric Adams is seeking to ban drill music from social media platforms.
In a recent speech regarding the death of 18-year-old drill rapper Jayquan McKenley/Chii Wvttz, who was shot and killed in Bed-Stuy earlier this month, Adams stated that he will sit down with social media companies and remind them that they “have a civic and corporate responsibility.” He continued, “We pulled Trump off Twitter because of what he was spewing, yet we are allowing music displaying of guns, violence — we’re allowing it to stay on these sites.”
Adams also revealed that he was made aware of the genre when his son Jordan Coleman, who works for JAY-Z‘s Roc Nation imprint, sent him videos. “I had no idea what drill rapping was, but I called my son and he sent me some videos, and it is alarming,” the Mayor shared during his speech.
