Paramount on Tuesday dropped off a new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, the upcoming sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 action classic.
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, sees the return of the original film’s star Tom Cruise as test pilot Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who comes across his late friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw’s son, Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), while training a squad of graduates.
“After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him,” the official synopsis reads. After encountering Goose’s son, “Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”
Aside from Cruise and Teller, the film stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Danny Ramirez, Manny Jacinto, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee and Jean Louisa Kelly. Cruise is also producing the sequel, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Christopher McQuarrie and David Ellison.
Initially slated for release all the way back in 2019, Top Gun: Maverick will now officially hit theaters on May 27. Watch the trailer above.
