Paramount+ has shared the official trailer for season two of Star Trek: Picard, which provides a first look at Whoopi Goldberg reprising her role as Guinan.
In the new season, Jean-Luc Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, is tasked with employing “friends both old and new to confront the perils of 21st century Earth in a desperate race against time to save the galaxy’s future — and face the ultimate trial from one of his greatest foes,” per the official description.
The visual confirms that Q throws Picard and his crew into an alternate reality that operates under a totalitarian regime in 2024, a significant year in the Star Trek universe history that primarily finds prominence in Deep Space Nine. In episodes “Past Tense” parts one and two of DS9, the franchise explores political and social unrest in the U.S. that ultimately led to the Bell Riots, which violently spurred social and political reform in Star Trek‘s America.
“There are some moments that haunt us all our lives,” Picard says in the trailer, likely referencing the pivotal moment in Star Trek‘s world-building. “Moments upon which history turns.”
Star Trek: Picard‘s upcoming season will also star Annie Wersching, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner.
Season two of Star Trek: Picard will premiere on March 3 on Paramount+ in the U.S., with new episodes releasing every Thursday. Amazon Prime Video will host the series outside the U.S., with the first episode becoming available on March 4.
