Warner Bros. has unveiled a new trailer for Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet as Paul, heir to House Atreides.
The new trailer opens as Chani (Zendaya) eerily describes the current climate of her desert planet Arrakis over stunning visuals of the secluded landscape, revealing that its inhabitants have fought against the empire over ownership of a valuable natural resource known as Spice, which is necessary for interstellar travel. Amid heated conflict, House Atreides, spearheaded by Leto (Oscar Isaac), takes control over the coveted planet and engages in all-out battle to protect its capital.
The Legendary Pictures movie marks the latest feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, following David Lynch’s take in 1984. On a larger scale, the plot centers on Paul, the noble’s bright son with an unprecedented destiny, who is tasked with traveling to the universe’s most dangerous planet in order to ensure the future of his people.
The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling and Stellan Skarsgard.
Dune was originally scheduled to premiere in November 2020, but experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie will now make its official world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, before landing in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22.
