Martin Scorsese has produced a new Beatles documentary titled Beatles ’64, which will follow the band’s first trip to America in 1964. The documentary is set for a streaming release on November 29, exclusively on Disney+.
The Beatles’ arrival in the United States in 1964 marked the height of the British rock group’s domination of global pop culture, an era often referred to as “Beatlemania.” Central to the historic visit was the band’s live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, which drew 73 million viewers, ultimately shaking out to become the most watched TV event ever at the time.
Never-before-seen footage of band members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison will be revealed in the film, offering a closer look at the trip than previously seen. Videos taken by documentarians Albert and David Maysles have been restored to 4K resolution, allowing fans to see the generation defining band in unprecedented quality.
In the lead up to the streaming premiere, a reissued collection of seven LPs titled The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums in Mono will arrive on November 22. The selected albums, including hit record A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track), will be hitting the shelves for the first time since going out of print in 1995.
The Academy Award-winning filmmaker was also behind a documentary on George Harrison released in 2011, as well as 2 different documentaries about singer Bob Dylan.
