In what’s becoming an annual tradition, Netflix is holding a livestreamed event called Tudum this year to show off some of its biggest upcoming shows, movies, and games. The streamer has already confirmed that some of its most-anticipated projects will be making an appearance, including its live-action takes on One Piece, 3 Body Problem, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. On top of that, expect some more detail on The Witcher’s upcoming third season as well as other heavy hitters like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Wednesday, and probably a few more titles for Netflix’s fledgling gaming efforts. It’s been a long time coming, but Netflix is finally ready to show off its upcoming adaptation of One Piece — we got the very first trailer at the streamer’s Tudum event today. The clip shows off around 90 seconds of the live-action pirate series, featuring the main cast — which includes Iñaki Godoy in the lead role — as well as giant sea monsters and a very stretchy arm.
Just as important: the eight-episode series now has a premiere date. It’ll start streaming on Netflix on August 31st.

Netflix’s next attempt at an action blockbuster.
Joining the ranks of Extraction, Red Notice, and the Grey Man cinematic universe is Heart of Stone, which stars Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt — and it just got a brand-new trailer. It starts streaming on August 11th.

We still don’t know much about season 5 of Stranger Things, but Netflix did confirm a new cast member: Terminator star Linda Hamilton. Hopefully there aren’t any robots, too.

A behind-the-scenes look at Rebel Moon.
We haven’t seen much of Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi film aside from a few images, but this featurette gives a bit more insight into what the movie will be like. It starts streaming on December 22nd.
Here’s the premise:
When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.

Netflix has been very quiet about its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. And while the new teaser trailer released at its Tudum event doesn’t show much at all, it does confirm the series will start streaming in 2024.

As promised, one of big highlights of Netflix’s Tudum event was our first look at the streamer’s much-anticipated adaptation of author Cixin Liu’s The Three-Body Problem. The teaser trailer provides just a brief — but still incredibly impressive — glimpse at the sci-fi epic, based on the trilogy of books. It also includes an important tidbit of info: the series will start streaming in January 2024.
The adaptation was first announced in 2020, with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss leading the project. (Glass Onion and Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, meanwhile, is among the team of producers.) If you’re new to Liu’s work — the series is called Remembrance of Earth’s Past, and The Three-Body Problem is the first book. Here’s the official synopsis:

The new movie takes the iconic series and moves it to 1960s India, and — based on this new trailer — it looks like it’ll be a blast. It doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but Netflix says it’s “coming soon.”

Now that a week of video game news is complete, it’s time for… streaming news.
Netflix is returning for its now-annual Tudum event, a livestream where it will showcase all of the latest news and trailers for its biggest franchises. That includes the ones that are already hits, like The Witcher, Bridgerton, and Squid Game, but also titles that we haven’t seen much of yet, including 3 Body Problem, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and One Piece. The announcements are expected to span across TV, film, and gaming.

Every year, Netflix fires up the Tudum hype machine in hopes of working fans into trailer-fueled frenzies that turn them into walking, talking spokespeople for the streaming platform. The trailer for Tudum itself — which is to say a trailer for a Brazil-based event full of trailers — probably won’t get your heart rate up, but the list of shows and movies being spotlighted at the presentation just might.
In all likelihood, Netflix won’t reveal all that much from its new adaptations of One Piece, 3 Body Problem, and Avatar: The Last Airbender or from features like director Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies. But those are previews that are probably going to stand out the most on June 17th as stars from a broad range of Netflix’s projects descend upon São Paulo or a global livestream of previews that you’ll also be able to watch from the comfort of your home.
