Netflix Shares Behind-The-Scenes of Upcoming ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Series

With less than 10 days to go until the One Piece live-action series make its debut, Netflix has dropped another promotional video to amp up the show’s hype. In offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Hollywood production, the near-4-minute-long video also details how each of the actors fit their respective roles of the Straw Hats Crew.

In the video, Franz Spilhaus, the series’ stunt coordinator pointed out the stunt-driven nature of the show. Whether in Eichiro Oda’s original manga or in the long-running TV anime, One Piece is undoubtedly an adventure story that’s packed with action and dynamic battle sequences. Some of the craziest fight scenes are carried by Zoro and Luffy. On this topic, Spilhaus noted that Mackenyu (who plays Zoro) is “very well-versed at katana work,” and has “a style of his own” that allows him really live and breathe the iconic swordsman character.

Despite mixed reactions coming from fans, it’s evident that an abundant amount of work and effort has been imbued into the production. “I hope existing One Piece fans see the love that went into this,” said showrunner/executive producer, Matt Owens, who added that “Oda-sensei and his team have been with us the entire time. That collaboration has birthed something really special.”

Starting August 31, the One Piece live-action series will be available to stream on Netflix. In the meantime, enjoy the behind-the-scenes video above.
