A forthcoming docuseries from Netflix called This is the Zodiac Speaking will revisit the mystery of the identity of the Zodiac Killer. In the 1960s, the serial killer went on a spree, killing five people in California’s Bay Area.
The identity of the killer was never discovered. Over fifty years later, the Zodiac Killer is widely regarded as the most famous – and perplexing – unsolved murder case in the US. The only clue pointing to the killer was a series of letters mailed to major newspapers, which included the use of cryptograms.
In the trailer for the documentary, a family comes forward with never-before-seen evidence pointing to the only suspect that the police publicly identified: former elementary school teacher Arthur Leigh Allen, who was a convicted sex offender. Allen was never charged with the crimes and died in 1992.
“I really thought I knew him… but I didn’t,” one man who knew Allen says.
