Netflix Cancels Live-Action ‘Resident Evil’ Series

According to reports, Netflix has decided against renewing its live-action Resident Evil series for a second series. Effectively canceling the show, the eight-episode series premiered July 14 and is loosely based on Capcom‘s Resident Evil survival horror game franchise.

Directed by Bronwen Hughes at Constantin Film, Resident Evil stars Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nunez.

Debuting around the same time as Stranger Things‘ latest season, Resident Evil garnered 72.7 million hours viewed to rank #2 in its first week on Netflix. Dropping to #3 with 73.3 million hours viewed in its second week, and completely out of the top 10 in its third week. The show also received a rather negative reception, with a 55% average critic rating and 27% average audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Metacritic reported a 53 (out of 100) metascore among critics and a 1.4 (out of 10) user score.
