Honourable Jude Idimogu, the lawmaker representing Oshidi/Isolo Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly has said that Ndigbo, an ethnic group from South East, does not hate All Progressives Congress (APC), as many people would erroneously believe, rather it is the leadership of the group that has been the problem.
Idimogu said at a press conference over the weekend when representatives of Ndigbo and other stakeholders announced him as the apex leader of Ndigbo in APC, to take over from Joe Igbokwe, Special Adviser on Drainage and Environment to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
The lawmaker said he had not been a happy person because his people had continued to support opposition party in the state, which had also robbed them of their due rights as a people in the state.
“Igbo are self made people. They are illustrious, and if you want to woo an Igbo man you must speak with him respectfully. It is not true that Igbo people don’t like APC, after all, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) are just political platforms.
While talking about the tenacity of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of APC, who he described as a wise politician, who according to him used his political sagacity to transform, the party that had become a household name from Alliance for Democracy to now APC.
He maintained that Ndigbo had not done well in APC, especially in Lagos State because former leaders of the party failed in their responsibilities as leaders.
“It is the grassroots that vote in elections, and if you are transparent and communicate properly with them, you would get their support. In the last election, Igbo voted against APC not because they hated the party but because former leaders betrayed their trust” Idimogu said.
While promising that things would begin to look up for the party, he stressed that he was hopeful that in 2023, APC would perform better than it did in previous elections because the party would get overwhelming support of Igbo people.
