Every now and then I become a little sad about the demise of Topshop as, separate from the obvious teenage nostalgia, it really knew how to deliver a good high street summer dress. But, while nothing will ever quite rival the frocks of that Kate Moss collab, we can be thankful that there are a host of other brands that are more than happy to take up the mantle, most notably H&M, Monki and & Other Stories.
Brands such as these have become better and better and refining the art of good dress design, delivering consumers premium-feel fabrics and sculptural silhouettes that wouldn’t look out of place on a runway. In our experience, when it comes to high street shopping, less is more, and sticking to one dramatic feature—such as a plunging back, colourful hue or statement sleeve—is an easy shortcut to winning summer style.
At the top of my dress wishlist is H&M’s beige mini dress, which looks very ’90s romcom when paired with the matching tailored trousers. I also have my eye on the subtle cut-out offerings, such as & Other Stories’ brown ribbed midi and Monki’s classic black iteration. But, whatever your preferences, there’s so much more to love.
