Mustafa Announces Debut Studio Album ‘Dunya’

Mustafa Announces Debut Studio Album 'Dunya'

Mustafa on Thursday announced his debut studio album, Dunya (Arabic for “the world in all its flaws”), is set to release on September 27 via Jagjaguwar.

The Sudanese-Canadian musician announced the project on Instagram alongside the official music video for the record’s fifth track, “SNL.” He wrote, “SNL. Track 5 on my debut album, out July 11th.”

The video, directed by Mustafa himself, sees the singer-songwriter reciting his bars amidst friends on the street. “And the day that I had you/Yelling gang-gang-gang in my room/You sprayed me with perfume,” he sings. “Then we took the night, took a drive/And you were singing a street n**** lullaby.”

Notably, the track was produced by Rodaidh McDonald, Simon Hessman and the National’s Aaron Desner. McDonald and Hessman are also credited on Dunya‘s previously released songs: “Imaan,” “Name of God” and “Gaza Is Calling.”

Dunya follows Mustafa’s When Smoke Rises EP, which was released in 2021. The forthcoming album will be the record-maker’s biggest feat yet, with features and collaborations from the likes of JID, Rosalía, Clairo, Nicolás Jaar, Daniel Caesar, and Ramy Youssef.
