Ms. Lauryn Hill has revealed the reason behind the last-minute cancellation of her and The Fugees‘ North American tour dates.
A statement released by the artist briefly explained that the cancellation was due to an injury she suffered from in 2023. Hill also called out the “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines” of unnamed media outlets, accusing them of “[creating] a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.”
“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” she continued. “Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
Nevertheless, The Fugees will still push through with their UK and Europe tour dates this October, and Hill promises that they will reschedule their North American dates “when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved.”
The tour is being held in celebration of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’s 25th anniversary, with The Fugees serving as the co-headliners. It was meant to kick off this Friday in Tampa, Florida.
