Morgan Wallen Continues His Push Into Rap Music With His New Song

Morgan Wallen currently claims the No. 1 song in America. The country star recently teamed up with Post Malone, and the two produced the smash single “I Had Some Help,” which has now ruled the Hot 100 for four consecutive frames. As that hit keeps on trucking, Wallen has released a new tune with an unlikely collaborator.

On Friday (June 14), Wallen’s new song “Whiskey Whiskey” dropped. The track is fronted by rapper Moneybagg Yo and featured on his new album Speak Now, and Wallen is credited as a featured artist.

“Whiskey Whiskey” immediately became one of the biggest new entries on the U.S. iTunes chart. Fridays are usually packed with exciting new drops on the platform, as fans rush to buy a copy of the just-released tracks from some of the biggest names in the music industry.

As of the time of writing, “Whiskey Whiskey” sits at No. 21 on the ranking of the bestselling tracks on iTunes in America. It’s the second-loftiest new entry, coming in behind only Chinese singer and rapper Lay’s “Step,” which sits just below the top 10 tier.

“Whiskey Whiskey” is not Wallen’s first hip-hop song. While he’s known as perhaps the most successful country artist in America–and perhaps the world–at the moment, he’s dabbled in the genre before…and always with a musician who has already made their name in that field.

In 2021, Wallen teamed up with Lil Durk for a surprising joint single. The two released “Broadway Girls” to much fanfare…and plenty of questions.

The tune was shared at a time when Wallen was trying to fix his image. He had recently been put on a suspension by his record label and found himself in a PR nightmare when he was caught on camera using a racial slur. Durk helped him turn things around with the collaboration, which turned out to be a chart hit.

“Broadway Girls” peaked at No. 14 on the Hot 100. The tune also brought Wallen to the highest of highs on a number of Billboard’s hip-hop and rap tallies, which few could have predicted just a few weeks prior to that success. The two would also team up for another cut, “Stand By Me,” which was also a quick win on a number of genre-specific lists.

In a little more than a week, “Whiskey Whiskey” may bring Wallen back to at least one or two of the rap-focused charts in America. If the single can continue to sell well, even for a short time, it may stand a shot at landing on the Rap Digital Song Sales ranking, among others, helping the country sensation continue his slow and steady trek into the hip-hop space.
