‘Moonage Daydream’ Uncovers Rare David Bowie Footage in New Trailer

The first trailer for director Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream, a forthcoming feature-length film documenting the late David Bowie‘s unprecedented star power and spiritual journey, is here.

The movie, which is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, includes never-before-seen footage, music and performances alongside narration from Bowie himself. Notably, Moonage Daydream marks the inaugural movie project to be officially authorized by the late musician’s estate.

Morgen, whose previous works include JaneKurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and The Kid Stays in the Picture, recently discussed the project during CinemaCon, revealing that the storyline is largely shaped by hours of rare footage of Bowie, according to Variety.

“Bowie cannot be defined, he can be experienced,” Morgen said to the crowd. “That is why we crafted ‘Moonage Daydream,’ to be a unique cinematic experience.” As he was given access to the artist’s musical libraries, including all master recordings, in 2017, Morgen added that he had spent two years “scrolling through every piece of material in the Bowie archive” to create the movie.

Moonage Daydream is expected to premiere on HBO and HBO Max in the spring of next year. Watch the official trailer above.
