Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture underlined the importance of strengthening education on healthy lifestyle to prevent various diseases.
“The ministry urges all ministries and institutions as well as regional governments to strengthen education and dissemination on the importance of healthy lifestyle,” Health Service Improvement Assistant Deputy at the ministry Nia Reviani noted when contacted here, Sunday.
She explained that cross-sectoral synergy, in knowledge, service, and education, will be the main foundation to achieve better results in preventing diseases.
Education and dissemination of information are necessary to improve the public’s awareness and understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyle and the importance of routine health examination, she stated.
“Routine health examination is very important as a form of early detection of a disease,” she remarked.
Leading a healthy lifestyle encompasses various factors, such as engaging in routine exercise; consuming healthy foods, with focus on intake of large quantities of vegetables and fruits; and avoiding risk factors, such as smoking and obesity.
“The government is currently intensifying the Healthy Living Community Movement (Germas) to improve the public’s health resilience,” she stated.
This aligns with Presidential Instruction No. 1 of 2017 on Healthy Living Community Movement to encourage the public to prioritize the promotional and preventive health paradigm.
“Germas is a planned and systematic action taken collectively by all elements of society to improve health quality, founded by the public’s awareness and understanding of the importance of Germas,” she stated.
Germas comprises seven steps: conducting physical activities, consuming fruits and vegetables, avoiding smoking, not consuming alcoholic drinks, performing routine health examination, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and using latrines.
“The ministry also encourages collaboration and synergy with all parties in making Germas a success. The ministry is committed to continuing to improve the public’s health resilience,” she remarked.
