‘Minecraft’ NFT Project “Blockverse” Labelled a Scam After Disappearing With $1.2 Million USD

‘Minecraft’ NFT Project “Blockverse” Labelled a Scam After Disappearing With $1.2 Million USD

An unofficial Minecraft NFT collection has been the latest project at the subject of another rug pull.

Earlier this week, the project named “Blockverse” which considered “an an on-chain Ethereum NFT that enables a unique P2E on Minecraft like no other,” also known as a play-to-earn PvP Minecraft server, seemingly sold $1.2 million USD in tokens before completely disappearing. Blockverse initially released 10,000 NFTs all priced at $124 USD each, also known as 0.05 ETH. All the NFTs were sold out in less than eight minutes, but days later, the project’s creators pulled the plug and even deleted their website, game server and Discord server. Along with those, the creators also vanished with all the money.

After a few days of silence, the Blockverse founders resurfaced on Twitter to explain and seemingly apologize their actions in a statement. The founders argued that they had to shut down operations due to harassment. The creators wrote,

“The FUD [fear, uncertainty, and doubt] quickly descended into harassment, threats, and doxxing. The team noticed all this and panicked, deleting the discord server on impulse. Everything else was closed to prevent the continuation of harassment that had occurred so far. Even then, the plan was to reopen once everyone had time to calm down.

There is absolutely no reason for us to leave permanently, as all the technical work and infrastructure for the project thus far has already been put in place. It was actually more work to take things down than to leave it up, but again, everything was done in the interest of protecting personal safety.”

The founders also added that they are “disappointed that the community jumped to false accusations so quickly, but we still believe in our project, and in order for everyone else to regain that faith, we are in talks with professionals in the space about how we may proceed.” Many of their fanbase did not seem too convinced with the explanation is now labelling the situation as a scam. According to PC Gamer, the community have taken to Twitter to “negotiate with the original Blockverse developers for control of the project.”
