Militarie Gun are officially back with “Thought You Were Waving,” the Los Angeles band’s first proper new music since their excellent 2023 debut album, Life Under the Gun. Stream it below.
“Thought You Were Waving” was created by the Consequence rising artist to watch with Zachary Dawes (Lana Del Rey, Sharon van Etten). A tongue-in-cheek track all about misunderstanding, it finds vocalist Ian Shelton singing lyrics like, “I thought you were waving/ Turns out you were drowning/ Pull me down, just save me next time.”

In the Neta Ben Ezra-directed music video, the members of Militarie Gun passively get involved in all sorts of ridiculous situations, such as letting a robber steal all their belongings, ignoring a burning house, and disposing of dead bodies. Watch it below.

Earlier this year, Militarie Gun dropped their EP Life Under the Sun, which reimagined five songs from Life Under the Gun. More recently, they created the song “Gun Under the Gun (MFG)” as the walk-in music for Post Malone’s WWE 2K24 video game character.
Militarie Gun are slated for some headlining US shows later this month, followed by a European run and September dates opening for Manchester Orchestra.
