Microsoft is gearing up to build a sprawling data center for its operations and to kick off its plans, has purchased 407 acres of land in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, for $76 million USD, The Milwaukee Business Journal reported first.
The property was owned by the Creuziger family and currently encompasses a pumpkin farm and a 9-acre corn maze. Prior to the offer, the land was reportedly valued at $598,400 USD according to a local assessor.
The family had previously received an offer from the local government in 2017 for about a third of the recent sale price, the Journal reported. That sale would’ve been in partnership with Foxconn Technology Group but the family ultimately declined the offer.
Along with the Creuziger’s land, Microsoft purchased their neighbors’ farm for nearly $24 million USD, bringing the total spent on its future campus to nearly $100 million USD. Microsoft is aiming to hire about 200 employees to start with plans to bring on another 500 individuals down the line.
