It’s been four years since his passing, but the world continues to celebrate the life and legacy of MF DOOM. Rhymesayers Entertainment is commemorating the 20th year of the late artist’s 2004 classic, MM..FOOD, with a special anniversary edition.
The latest digital deluxe version features the original tracklist, rare remixes of “One Beer” and “Hoe Cakes” by by Madlib, Jake One and Ant and unreleased interview clips from DOOM himself. Meanwhile, its accompanying limited deluxe edition vinyl double vinyl LP arrives in a 12-inch tip-on case-wrapped matte gatefold jacket with anti-scratch lamination treatment and silver foil stamped numbering. Also joining the vinyl release is a bonus 7-inch picture disc vinyl featuring the rare original version of “Kookies” and the Just Blaze remix, stored in a custom kraft paper pastry sleeve with plastic window and a QR code sticker that links to an MM..FOOD Diner AR experience.
It was also previously announced that the long out-of-print “Hoe Cakes” 12-inch vinyl will be reissued with its original artwork, pressed on a “bug juice blend” colored vinyl record. “Hoe Cakes,” “Potholderz” with Count Bass D, the “Hoe Cakes Remix” by Ant and all its instrumentals will be included.
MM..FOOD is the only MF DOOM album that officially exists as the followup to his 1999 album Operation: Doomsday. It was referred to by the artist as a concept album and, as the title suggests, regularly plays on food and food-related items. Earlier this year, the tracks “Hoe Cakes” and “One Beer” gave DOOM posthumous RIAA gold plaques, while “Rapp Snitch Knishes” became platinum.
