Stones Throw is commemorating MF DOOM and Madlib‘s seminal joint album Madvillainy with special Demos and Audiophile Edition vinyl LP releases.
Madvillain’s Demos will be released on vinyl for the first time after they were initially released on tape in 2008 as part of a box set, and then again in September 2013 for the first ever Cassette Store Day. Original mastering engineer Dave Cooley returns to master the demos, which also includes an insert with Eric Coleman’s contact sheets from the album’s cover shoot.
Meanwhile, the Audiophile Edition is a celebration of the finished record and is re-cut at 45rpm and pressed to 180g vinyl. The album’s lyrics are printed on the inner gatefold of the jacket that’s crafted with heavy tip-on cardboard, while the record itself is securely placed inside premium quality rice paper sleeves for safekeeping.
Madvillainy released in March 2004 and is widely regarded as the late MF DOOM’s magnum opus. The record has been considered as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time and is regularly included in modern-day “best of” music lists.
MF DOOM and Madlib’s Madvillainy is available now for pre-order via the Stones Throw webstore and will ship exclusively on Black Friday. A wide release will be available in 2025.
