Meta Is Skipping Its F8 Developers Conference to Focus On Creating the Metaverse

Meta has decided to skip its annual F8 developers conference this year.

According to a new blog post from the company, the tech giant has decided to shift its focus on developing its Metaverse instead, hoping to make more progress before hosting another F8 event.

“Similar to years past, we are taking a brief break in programming and will not hold F8 in 2022 while we gear up on new initiatives that are all tailored towards the next chapter of the Internet, and the next chapter of our company too: building the metaverse,” a statement from Diego Duarte Moreira reads. “Similar to the early stages of the web, building the metaverse will be a collaborative effort at every stage – with other companies, creators and developers like you.”

Despite foregoing the conference this year, Moreira said that there’ll be an inaugural business messaging event coming up on May 19 called Conversations, as well as a Connect event where the company will share more on its latest developments in virtual and augmented reality and the Metaverse.

In other related news, the company is reportedly planning on releasing its own digital currency.
