Mercer Labs to Present New Haunting Immersive Exhibition

Mercer Labs is set to unveil a new immersive exhibition just in time for Halloween. Conceptualized by co-founder and multidisciplinary artist Roy Nachum, Dark Matter invites audiences into nightmarish dreamscapes, fusing together elements of psychic darkness with paranormal expression.

Housed at Mercer Labs’ 36,000 square foot base in downtown Manhattan, the exhibition will feature a series of 15 unique rooms. In a maelstrom of robots, 4D soundscapes, dynamic projections and infinity rooms, Dark Matter creates an experience that is just as entrancing as it is eerie.

Dark Matter examines the role of darkness in art history,” says Nachum in an exhibition statement. “Revealing how the subconscious uncertainty and the unknown has shaped artistic movements across time. The exhibition is a mirror to our fears and fascinations.” Channeling the unsettledness of Francisco de Goya’s Black Paintings or the uncanny allure in “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Hieronymous Bosch, the show grounds itself in a haunting beauty.

Since its opening in January 2024, Mercer Labs has hosted immersive events for 88rising, Alicia Keys, and Tribeca Film Festival. This exploration into the unknown expands on the museum’s mission to challenge perceptions of reality through multisensory experiences, pushing the limits of what art can be.

For Dark Matter, Nachum expands his curiosities into deeper, darker worlds. Coursing through psychic and historical terrains, the show is an artfully atmospheric spin on the traditional haunted house.

Tickets are available for select evenings from October 4 through October 30, 2024. Limitless, the artist’s inaugural exhibition will remain open during daylight hours.
