Mercedes-Benz Announces New All-Terrain E-Class at IAA Mobility Munich

Mercedes-Benz has announced its all-new “All-Terrain E-Class” at this year’s IAA Mobility show in Munich. Upon its U.S. delivery, scheduled for 2024, the wagon-styled vehicle will be the second addition to the E-Class family in the states, joining its Sedan counterpart.

The All-Terrain E-Class presents itself as a niche offering in terms of design and its propensity to embrace off-road elements. Notable design aspects include the twin-louver grille, adorned with the Mercedes-Benz Star at the center and draped in Iridium Silver. Its robust appearance is accentuated by dark grey wheel arch cladding, a distinctive front bumper, as well as minimal chrome accents at the front and rear underride guards that reinforce the vehicle’s off-road character.

Inside, the car does not fall short of expectations, featuring AMG stainless steel sports pedals and floor mats stamped with the “All-Terrain” logo, bringing the rugged design indoors. Additionally, the MBUX Superscreen, which can stretch across to the optional front passenger screen, redefines the car’s digital experience.

As for performance, the vehicle boasts a standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive and an AIRMATIC air suspension. These features, combined with an Off-Road driving program, ensure the All-Terrain E-Class smoothly navigates light terrains — with the AIRMATIC system adjusting damping characteristics automatically at each wheel, providing a smoother ride even on bumpy terrains. Additionally, the COMFORT program offers an automatic reduction of 0.6 inches in the vehicle’s height at speeds above 75 mph, ensuring less wind resistance and better fuel efficiency.

Powering the E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain is a six-cylinder engine, boasting 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, responsible for a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. Complementing the engine’s turbocharger is a mild hybrid system with intelligent boost technology and an integrated starter generator, enhancing the car’s electrification potential.
