Mercedes Benz and Moncler Unveil Collaborative Reimagination of the G-Class

Mercedes-Benz and Moncler have partnered for an out of this world collaboration, bringing together the world of motors and puffers to the Mercedes G-Wagon.

Revealed earlier this week at Moncler’s “The Art of Genius” show during London Fashion Week, it continues both brands’ collaborative ethos that pushes the boundaries of creativity and bridging unlikely industries. Prior to this collaborative project, Mercedes-Benz worked with critically acclaimed designer Virgil Abloh on Project Maybach. As for Moncler, under its Genius label, collaborations are a driving force to success.

This particular re-imagination of the G-Class is known as Project Mondo G. The piece itself took over a year in the making and sees the heavy-duty wagon feature high-gloss reflective surfaces that are formed in the shape of Moncler’s puffers, highlighting part of the roof of the car and the wheels. A massive zipper detail with Moncler’s branding is seen on the back of the car. In all, Project Mondo G ways 2.5 tons.

Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s chief design officer Gorden Wagener said that that artwork shows off “the strong geometry of the G-Class merged with the organic forms of Moncler puffer jackets.” Britta Seeger, a member of Mercedes-Benz’s board of management said, “It’s not something you would imagine from the automotive industry, so we wanted to take things to a different level. It’s much deeper than a sponsorship engagement.” Seeger admits that collaborating with different designers allows the company to think outside the box, reaching a new set of audiences beyond the automotive realm.

In the past, Mercedes has had various partnerships, including global fashion weeks for the past 28 years. In 2023, it has partnered with Madrid, Tbilisi, Mexico and Prague.

In case you missed it, Tesla is recalling 362,000 cars after admitting its full self driving system may be the cause of crashes.
