Meguru Yamaguchi Explores “Shadez of Blue” at +81 Gallery

+81 Gallery announced that it will expand its reach by adding a new space in Tokyo’s Harajuku district. The inaugural exhibition will feature the Japanese-born, New York-based artist, Meguru Yamaguchi.

In “Shadez of Blue,” Yamaguchi experiments with aluminum plates for the first time. The show marks a return for the artist, who first partnered with the gallery’s New York location back in 2015 and presented his artwork on rectangular canvass. To coincide with the event, +81 Publishers will publish a sumptuous book that documents the exhibition titled The Underground Spiritual Blue.

Celebrated for his gestural drip-like aesthetic, Yamaguchi refers to his technique as “Cut & Paste” — where he creates an interesting symmetry between vibrant and chaotic brushstrokes. As his work evolves, the artist uses each and every day to ruminate on questions of what painting is and can be in the present age.

In other art-related news, Dan Life and Kenny Scharf partner on four brilliant crystal pendants.
