Kate Abdo is best known for presenting the brilliant and often chaotic Sports Golazo show on CBS.

The 41-year-old, who currently hosts the American network’s Champions League show, regularly goes viral with hilarious snippets taken from the show. Alongside the former footballer trio of Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, Abdo is a fan-favourite due to the fun and banterful tone which separates the show from others.

She regularly teams up with her colleagues in ribbing ex-Manchester City defender Richards, famously poking fun at his lack of Champions League success and how much he forks out on haircuts.

But Abdo is a veteran in the presenting game. Born in Manchester under the maiden name Giles, she took her husband Ramtin Abdolmajid’s surname – shortened to Abdo – when they married in 2010.

She is reportedly no longer with the German businessman and real estate guru, but her career has blossomed since the days of working for German news network Deutsche Welle.

Abdo joined the network in 2005, translating stories from Spanish and German into English. As she rose up the ladder, she became a sports anchor for the programme – a post which she held until 2009 before joining CNN International.

The part-Guyanese presenter left for Sky Sports News HQ in 2011 and finally returned to the UK in 2014. There, she joined a star-studded line-up of presenters on Sky Sports News UK that included the likes of Hayley McQueen and Natalie Sawyer.

Abdo also hosted the FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony in 2014 and 2015, where she spoke to nominees in four different languages – French, English, Spanish and German.

And she has also made a name for herself by dabbling in other sports, most notably presenting the press conference between heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

During the show in 2021, Abdo encouraged the pair to face off on stage before being yelled at by boxing promoter Bob Arum.

Arum said: “They bring this woman in from the UK and she’s slanting all the press conferences towards Wilder. She knew there was to be no face-off. F*** her.”

Yet Abdo was able to brush off the criticism to become one of the most well-known football presenters across Europe and now America.
