The Philadelphia Phillies played the Houston Astros tonight (November 3) in Game 5 of the 2022 MLB World Series, and before throwing out the first pitch, the Phillies brought out hometown hero Meek Mill to build hype for the game. The Philadelphia native played the song “Dreams and Nightmares” from his 2012 album of the same name. Watch it happen here.
“Are you ready for the Phillies? Make some noise,” Meek Mill said before the “Dreams and Nightmares” beat dropped. He was also joined the Phillie Phanatic toward the end of the song, and the two rode off the field together in matching baby-blue jerseys.
Meek Mill’s latest studio album Expensive Pain dropped in October 2021. Last month, he hosted a concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of Dreams and Nightmares. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and went double-platinum in 2019. The album’s title track was taken up by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 as a rallying cry for their victory at Super Bowl LII.
See why “Dreams and Nightmares” was included in Pitchfork’s list of “The 200 Best Songs of the 2010s.”
