Medic outreach team provides health resources, community EMS trainings | Philadelphia Fire Department

Neighborhood groups interested in health, wellness, and emergency medical services (EMS) are encouraged to reach out to the Philadelphia Fire Department for free resources and training.

Our Community Risk Reduction (CRR) team provides education on multiple medical topics with an emphasis on preventing emergencies. Programs include:

  • How to use Narcan (overdose reversal)
  • Stop the Bleed
  • Hands-only CPR (non-certification)

Trainings can be scheduled in community centers, with civic organizations, or at public events. The CRR set-up features a resource table staffed by experienced paramedics and/or emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Our members can perform blood pressure evaluations, answer questions about medical issues, distribute Narcan kits, and offer literature on various healthy lifestyle topics.

“We want to help build strong, healthy and well-educated communities by promoting physical and mental well-being as well as harm-reduction services,” said Assistant Deputy Commissioner for EMS Martin W. McCall.

In addition to public outreach, the CRR team can make individual referrals. Residents who need services outside the traditional 911 system can be given direct links to social services and resources to help reduce non-emergency calls for EMS.
