The study, spearheaded by the Department of Research and Development at MOMIX, will form part of the 3M (Music Museum Moris) project.
By applying established research methods, the project seeks to collect representative data to provide relevant cultural statistics of the Mauritian music industry.
The theoretical framework and methodological approach of the research were unveiled last year by MOMIX director Stephan Rezannah and the organisation’s research and development manager, Kimberly Oxide.
This was followed by fieldwork to gather data earlier this year, with MOMIX research assistants Laëticia Botte and Stephan Ravaton going on the road to collect information from both public and private institutions across the island nation.
Online questionnaire
Last week, MOMIX launched an online questionnaire intended for people living in Mauritius to collect information on music consumption in the country.
The questionnaire is accessible here.
“We wish to collect and collate relevant data on music consumption in Mauritius, by approaching consumers present at concerts and festivals, among others,” MOMIX said. “Subsequently, we aspire to offer cultural statistics in the music industry in Mauritius.
“It’s important to note that this research is fully funded by MOMIX for now and that there is a sponsorship call for the continuity of the research project. Any institutions or partners that are keen to contribute to this initiative in Mauritius can express their interest by contacting Ms Oxide at kim@momix.io.”
About MOMIX
MOMIX is an annual initiative that was launched in 2017 with the goal of creating a network for all cultural professionals involved in the music industry in Mauritius, including artists, managers, producers, festival organisers and media representatives. Its main objective is to connect music professionals from around the world to help gain a better understanding of the industry’s challenges and opportunities both within the country and internationally. MOMIX also aims to facilitate the efficient export of live performances and the utilisation of music recordings.
