Matt Champion revealed he had something in the cards this week, but no one knew quite what. Today, the enigmatic musician revealed what marks his first offering since his debut solo LP Mika’s Laundry.
Entitled “Faye,” the trippy just-over two-minute track taps into Champion’s trap-tinged background, taking a more hip-hop-infused tone than Mika’s Laundry saw him experiment with. Production on “Faye” comes from his frequent collaborators Dijon and Henry Kwapis.
“All black dress, yeah, that’s Saint Laurent / *itch gon’ get the Ouija and ask you somethin’,” he spits over distorted production at the end of the verse.
Champion also took to his Instagram page to share a few visuals from “Faye,” which feature long blocks of text on-screen. While the visuals had commenters suspecting a book in the pipeline, instead, the track reportedly indicates the start of Champion’s new series of singles, set to expand on the themes he introduced on Mika’s Laundry.
Stream “Faye” on Spotify and Apple Music now and stay tuned for more updates as they transpire.
