Barry Keoghan, the Irish actor who will appear in Marvel’s Eternals and DC’s The Batman, was taken to Galway University Hospital Sunday night after being assaulted outside of his hotel. Via the Irish Independent, he received treatment for multiple injuries, including cuts to the face, before being released.
A representative for the Garda Síochána — the national police service of the Republic of Ireland — confirmed the events without mentioning the 28-year-old actor by name. “Gardaí did attend an incident at a hotel in the Wellpark area of Galway City on Sunday August 15, 2021 after 3.30 am,” a spokesperson said. “An ambulance was also called and a man in his 20s was treated for non life-threatening injuries. Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made.”
Keoghan grew up in Dublin on the eastern edge of Ireland, and his presence in the smaller city of Galway out west did not escape local attention. “He was spotted around town a bit. He said he was down to see a few people he had become friends with when he was abroad,” one local said. “It was known he was staying up in the G Hotel, which is one of the poshest hotels in the city.”

In the aftermath of the attack, MSN reported that Keoghan posted a message on his Instagram. “Note to self, I told you so. Sincerely, Your Intuition.” No other details are available at this time, and the Independent reports that the actor has not issued a formal complaint.
Keoghan plays Druig in Eternals, which hits theaters November 5th. If you’d like, you can revisit the official trailer now. In Matt Reeves’ The Batman, he’ll be playing police officer Stanley Merkel. After several COVID-related delays, that flick has been pushed back to 2022.
