Just a few weeks out from opening weekend, Marvel‘s upcoming R-rated film Deadpool & Wolverine are set for a record opening of $160 to $165 million USD.
The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring film is slated to be the biggest launch ever for an R-rated film and comes at a time when MCU need a much needed boost in the superhero genre. Directed by Shawn Levy, the film follows the popular fun-loving an foul-mouthed anti-hero Wade Wilson, who finds himself enlisting Wolverine’s Logan to help defeat a common enemy.
The first Deadpool film made history with its $133.7 million domestic opening, making it the biggest R-rated title in 2016. Still holding onto this record, the third film is on track to break it. The second film on the other hand debuted at $125.5 million USD in 2018. Reynolds co-wrote the script with Levy and may be exactly what Marvel needs to revive the superhero category.
Deadpool & Wolverine is slated to hit theaters on July 26.
