In the span of two years, Marvel‘s Blade film set to star Mahershala Ali as the franchise star, has seen two directors exit the project. Yann Demange is reportedly no longer set to direct the long-in-the-works vampire superhero reboot, becoming the second director to bite the dust following Bassam Tariq‘s exit in 2022.
According to Variety, Demange’s exit was amicable and that he had actually departed the project weeks ago. So far, Blade‘s development has undergone many changes and has been a long-awaited project stretched over many years. Eric Pearson, who is known for co-writing another Marvel favorite, The Fantastic Four, has been the next writer to take on the Blade script after at least five other writers have passed on the project.
While Marvel has moved its release date to November 7, 2025, at the rate of all the changes, it is uncertain if they will be able to meet the release calendar deadline. Between now and then, Marvel has four films releasing, including Deadpool & Wolverine later this year and Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four in 2025. Blade was first announced in 2019 and has been in the works since then.
