Marvel is rebooting 1992’s X-Men: The Animated Series, its second attempt at an animated version of the franchise, which fortuitously went on to run for five seasons. During its later seasons, Marvel was approaching bankruptcy, which seemingly led to the show being axed.
X-Men: The Animated Series, is getting a second life, however, in the form of X-Men ’97. The reboot picks up right where the original show’s storyline left off.
In the trailer, Professor Xavier has died and it’s up to the X-Men to work together as a team without his guidance.
“We have to stay vigilant,” a voice says. “The professor entrusted us with his dream.”
Familiar characters and their respective voice actors will return for the reboot, including Rogue (Lenore Zann), Beast (George Buza), Wolverine (Cal Dodd) and Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith). Cyclops, Jean Grey, Gambit, Jubilee and Magneto, meanwhile, will all be voiced by new people. A second season for the show is already in the works.
