Marvel Has Confirmed ‘Shang-Chi 2’ Is in the Works

Marvel Studios is continuing to show no signs of stopping having just announced that it is currently working on a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. After much commercial and critical success, it comes as no surprise that Shang-Chi 2 will be coming to theaters soon.

Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is set to return as the writer and director of the sequel. Cretton has recently entered into an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Disney‘s companies Marvel Studios and Hulu‘s Onyx Collective. Deadline has also reported that the director is currently developing another MCU series for Disney+.

President of the Onyx Collective Tara Duncan praised Cretton, calling him a “powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster, Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience.” It is uncertain who will return to the sequel. The original cast for the film included Hollywood legends such as Michelle Yeoh and Tony Leung. With the addition of Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Fala Chen and Meng’er Zhang, just to name a few, the film was the MCU’s first movie led by an Asian actor in a mostly Asian cast. Globally, Shang-Chi grossed close to $432 million USD.

In response to the franchise expansion, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Elsewhere in Marvel, Kevin Feige has confirmed the casting for Daredevil.
