Mariah Carey‘s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has made history as the first song in Billboard Hot 100 history to return to No. 1 for the third year in a row.
According to Billboard, the tracking week of December 10 to December 16 saw an increase of 7% in both radio airplay audience impressions and downloads. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” also extends Carey’s record of most weeks at No. 1 to a whopping 85 weeks, where she is followed by Rihanna at 60 weeks and The Beatles at 59 weeks.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” was first released in 1994 as part of Carey’s Christmas album and has since become a holiday staple. The single was the first holiday song to be certified diamond by the RIAA, and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time ever in 2019.
As we enter the holiday season, Carey also recently teamed up with McDonald’s for exclusive merchandise ahead of her menu launch.
In other music and holiday news, Mac DeMarco is continuing his tradition with a cover of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
