The King Maker stage has given rise to the city’s most popular boy and girl groups, Mirror and Collar. The bands have also catapulted some members to solo success. Among the most high-achieving, of course, is the first season’s Keung To who’s a member of Mirror.

Girl group Collar is following in Mirror’s footsteps, with many of its members enjoying success in both music and on screen. One of the most recognisable faces from the group is Marf Yau, 21, who’s been wowing fans with her dance and vocal skills since day one of the competition.

Most recently, Yau has dabbled in acting with a role in ViuTV’s romantic comedy Left on Read. Fans have praised her natural talent and her adorable performance as a high school student.

Yau joined Collar when it was officially formed at the end of season four of King Maker under the MakerVille entertainment group. With over 200,000 followers on Instagram, Yau has an edgy style that’s made her a fashion darling among luxury brands. Currently sporting a bright orange short bob, her hair, much like her style, has evolved quite a bit since she embarked on her King Maker journey.

She debuted on King Maker dressed very much in the style of a typical Gen Zer – think crop tops, low-rise baggy jeans and chunky trainers. The former veterinary nurse stood out on stage with her long black hair and blond and black micro fringe, which made her instantly recognisable on stage among 100 other contestants.

Her looks remained more or less reflective of Gen Z aesthetics throughout the competition, without much brand-name fashion. It wasn’t until Collar’s debut performance in 2022, where Yau and her bandmates dressed in head-to-toe Gucci, that the young talent began experimenting with luxury fashion.

Since then, Yau has collaborated with the likes of Louis Vuitton and Fendi. She brings her youthful energy to these luxury houses, often opting for colourful pieces with playful designs.

More recently, she stepped out in Celine’s latest autumn/winter designs, showing off a look that’s more sophisticated and grown-up. The star paired a sequinned micro mini dress with tasselled knee-high boots.

Despite donning top designer brands these days, Yau hasn’t lost her vibrant, youthful edge. She and her band continue to break new ground while creating unique looks for their music videos and on stage.

In Yau’s most recent music video, the group is seen dressed in a rainbow of prints and patterns, bringing back her favourite crop top and baggy pants completed with a playful headpiece and sleeves.
