Malcolm in the Middle revival set with Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz

There’s been talk of a Malcolm in the Middle revival for several years, but now it has officially been set at Disney+ with primary cast members Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their original roles.

Per Variety, four new episodes have been ordered with original series creator Linwood Boomer at the helm. “Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party,” reads the official logline.

Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

Muniz and Cranston had been teasing a Malcolm in the Middle revival for several years. In 2022, Muniz said his TV dad was leading an effort to get “everything rolling” and Cranston confirmed there was work being done on a “reunion, movie, or show” in June of last year.

Since Malcolm in the Middle went off the air after seven seasons in 2006, Cranston has starred in Breaking Bad, transforming from a similarly hapless TV dad to helming a meth empire.

Meanwhile, Muniz recently became a full-time driver for the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series after beginning a professional career on the track in 2006. Kaczmarek has starred in the legal drama Raising the Bar, while also appearing in sitcoms like Us & Them and Playing House.
