Leicester-based R&B star Mahalia has just released her latest album, IRL, and it sees the singer-songwriter present a solid collection of records that represent her in a more well-rounded and mature light, following the release of her debut album, Love and Compromise, four years ago.
And while Mahalia has provided regular single releases for her music-hungry fans — including a five-track EP titled Letter To Ur Ex – fans have been ready and waiting for a full-length project from the musician for some time now.
Enlisting JD. Reid as the album’s executive producer, who worked on the vast majority of the album material, Mahalia also brought in the likes of Ben Hart, The Elements, RAYE, Spencer Stewart, and GRADES to handle the remainder of the project’s magic. Additionally, IRL also includes a wide range of features, too, with Stormzy, Joyce Wrice, Kojey Radical, Destin Conrad, and JoJo all providing further slices of excellence.
Speaking about the release of her new album, Mahalia said: “This is a real reflection of the journeys I’ve had, what actually happened, and a celebration of everyone who got me there. There are names and family members I mention because they all helped in shaping who I am. I’m so proud of this album, and so proud of how much I challenged myself to just let those stories out.”
