During the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, Maggie Rogers appeared to perform a special acoustic rendition of her song “Back in My Body.”
Introduced by Maine’s Democratic nominee for Senate Sara Gideon, Rogers stood on the rocky coast of Maine dressed all in white, armed only with her guitar and a microphone for her performance. The song’s themes of standing up for yourself shone through, especially when Rogers sang in the chorus, “This time, I know I’m fighting.”
As Rogers sang through her song, images and clips of essential workers and medical professionals in the age of coronavirus flashed onto the screen, underscoring one of the event’s central themes surrounding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and President Donald Trump’s lack of leadership throughout it.
Earlier in the day on Monday, Rogers posted a thank you to former President Barack Obama for including her song “Love You For A Long Time” on his 2020 Summer Playlist. “What an incredible playlist to bump while you’re making sure you and all your friends, family, and neighbors are registered to vote,” she said on Instagram. “LOVE YOU (and Michelle) FOR A VERY LONG TIME!”
