Maggie Rogers Sings Her New Song ‘Want Want’ In An NYC Karaoke Bar

Maggie Rogers‘ upcoming record Surrender is out on July 29. Following the release of its first single, Rogers just shared the video for another one of its tracks, “Want Want.”

The “Want Want” video was filmed at a New York Koreatown karaoke bar. Directed by Warren Fu, who also helped in directing her previous single “That’s Where I Am,” Rogers dances behind her own gritty-karaoke-font lyrics.

Rogers’ lyrics begin with some resistance, but she admits halfway: “Then when we’re cheek to cheek / I feel it in my teeth / It’s too good to resist.” And as her bandmates and fellow karaoke-goers file in to dance with her, Rogers agrees with her feelings: “I keep running away but when I leave you pull me in again / Oh / We both know.”

Rogers tapped Kid Harpoon and Del Water Gap to help produce “Want Want,” which was initially written during quarantine with Del Water Gap in Maine. She recorded the song at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Sid’s Palace in Scarborough, ME, and Peter Gabriel’s own Real World Studios in England.

Surrender is Rogers’ sophomore album. She already released the single “That’s Where I Am.”
