M. M. Keeravani, Kala Bhairava, and Rahul Sipligunj Win Best Original Song for RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” at Golden Globes 2023

M. M. Keeravani, Kala Bhairava, and Rahul Sipligunj have won Best Original Song at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards for “Naatu Naatu” from RRR. They were nominated alongside Taylor Swift (Where the Crawdads Sing’s “Carolina), Rihanna (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s “Lift Me Up”), Lady Gaga (Top Gun: Maverick’s “Hold My Hand”), and Gregory Mann (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’s “Ciao Papa”). Earlier in the evening, Justin Hurwitz won Best Original Score for his work on Babylon.

“I’m very much overwhelmed with this great moment happening,” M.M. Keeravani said upon accepting the award. “It’s been an age-old practice to say that this award actually belongs to someone else. So I was planning to not say those words when I get an award like this, but I’m sorry to say I’m going to repeat the tradiiton because I mean my words.” Keeravani then went on to individually thank RRR’s director S. S. Rajamouli, actors N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan, and the song’s lyricist, co-composers, programmers, and scene animator.

The 2022 Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to Billie Eilish and Finneas for “No Time to Die.” And Hans Zimmer won Best Original Score for his work on Dune. In addition, Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, but did not win the Golden Globe.
