Lorde has released a new music video for the Solar Power track “The Path.” The visual sees the singer perform while exploring an idyllic coastal landscape.
As she walks through the environment, she’s joined by backup dancers who grow in rank as the video progresses.
The video is co-directed by Joel Kefali and Lorde herself, who is credited under her real name, Ella Yelich-O’Connor.
“On the occasion of the solstice, I wanted to share a sixth video with you, for “THE PATH,”” the singer wrote in her newsletter. “This video is the first chapter in the mystical Solar Power story, a prequel to the title video.”
Solar Power landed in August last year as Lorde’s third studio album and the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama. She previously released videos for the album’s titular song, as well as the singles “Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All),” “Leader of a New Regime,” “Fallen Fruit,” “Mood Ring.” Currently, she’s touring the LP, making her next stop at Berlin’s Verti Music Hall on June 23.
Lorde continued to explain the inspiration behind the video in her newsletter:
You see my character joining her friends and family on the island where they’ve chosen to start life anew, arriving in her trademark suit and quickly being transformed by nature’s strange magic. I’m so proud of my buds for learning the dance in this one. Hope you like it.
