Lizzo has officially released the long-awaited “Special (Remix)” featuring SZA.
Clocking in at just under three minutes, the new version hears SZA open the track with a brand new solo verse where she opens up about being judged by strangers and the lack of empathy a person must have to do such a thing. Lizzo and SZA then hop on the chorus and the rest of the song together, uplifting their listeners with the heartfelt track.
The remix was first teased by Lizzo in November 2022, when she tweeted a video of her and SZA with the caption that “Something Special” was on the way.
In December 2022, SZA told the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast that the two of them “just have so much fun together,” and that Lizzo “gets” her. “She’s another person who has hella music tastes and doesn’t fit in anybody’s box of anything,” she continued. “She makes it seem like she doesn’t even care, like she just does whatever she wants. And I just love being with her, just as a friend and hanging out. So whenever she comes to a studio, I just feel like, ‘Let’s drop into some bullsh*t.’”
