Humble Billy loves street culture, it is one of the core expressions of his artistry. Earlier this year, he released a track titled “Dey Alright,” featuring Obenz, and now, not quite long after amassing huge numbers on digital music stores and also including his cinematic visual for the track, he offers another scintillating Obenz-assisted track titled “BBG.” Prior to that, now he his recently unleashed a debut 7-track project titled — “Black Bill Gates.”
Humble Billy taps one of the street’s most worthy elect Erigga, alongside his frequent collaborator Obenz, Mallz Official, and Aaronleethefirst to make quite an expansive project. He has a penchant to infuse lyrics street listeners can easily walk home with and easily understand. With his ability to rap counting his words as well as he sings, he reminisces the past on the first track and that makes it stand the chance to become a perfect opener for the project.
He rendered something that has all the capacity to entice the street on “News Caster” featuring Erigga who ultimately delivered. That should be his area of focus to go mainstream. Then, on “High Star,” he professed his belief as a star, and perhaps with the effort of Aaronleethefirst on the song, he is well on his way to doing so much more with that song.
And then “Amaka” becomes an escapade of a female character on the project who lives a fake life. Well, Amaka’s story is always tragic, she lives deceitfully, and basks in the darkness of telling people lies just as the popular Nigerian singer Tuface referred to her as disappointed in the Perruzi assisted (“Amaka” 2018).
Humble Billy cuts a more unique and interesting story for the same female character that bears the same name. On the watery piano and pop-infused “Black Bill Gates,” featuring Obenz, he becomes a bit personal and unfolds most of his thoughts about himself feeling like Black Bill Gates. Although he offers gratitude to God also and moves on. Further, Mallz Official’s effort on “Who Is This?” talks about his love interest, he put his woman first, however, the song is one of the most stands out tracks.
Finally, Billy has a beautiful sound that has more potential for street appeal, he is less of a pop artiste and then the few select collaborators he carries make him shine a bit. But then, his core is street culture. A track like “News Caster,” can do him so much more perhaps when he focuses on his strength alongside putting the right collaborators first. I forgot to tell you, News Caster, is also another stand-out on this project mostly when it is marketed to the right audience.
